Упр. 10 I.11 Після деяких абстрактних іменників (ability, attempt, chance, desire, failure, inability, need, opportunity, (un) willingness) також вживається інфінітив у функції визначення, щоб повідомити про них конкретну інформацію. All it takes is a willingness to learn.

Упр.10 I.12 Інфінітив, наступний за прикметником, може виконувати різні функції в реченні. Замініть виділену групу слів інфінітивом (або for -phrase) *. Визначте її функцію в реченні.

Приклад: It is important that he should understand this.

It is important for him to understand this.

1. He got to the top and was very disappointed when he found that someone else had reached it first.

2. I was astonished when I heard that he had left the country.

3. It is better that he should hear it from you.

4. I was rude to him, which was stupid. (It was stupid...)

5. It is necessary that everyone should know the truth.

6. He put his hand into his pocket and was astonished when he found that his wallet was not there.

7. He rushed into the burning house, which was very brave of him. (It was very brave ...)

8. He reached the station exhausted and was very disappointed when he learnt that the train had just left.

9. Is it likely that he will arrive before six? (Is he ...)

10. I was on the point of leaving the house when the phone rang.

11. She is anxious that they should have every possible advantage.

12. It is advisable that we should leave the house separately.

13. You signed the document without reading it, which was very stupid. (It was stupid ...)

14. He took out his spare wheel and was very disappointed when he discovered that that tyre was also punctured.

 * Після ряду прикметників (nice, kind, clever, sensible, rude, mean, silly, stupid, careless, unfair, considerate та ін.) вживається 'of-phrase':

It was unfair of students to criticise the lecturer so much.
